Green Power
Generated by Santee Cooper and distributed by Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative, South Carolina's Green Power plant collects methane gas from the Horry County Solid Waste Authority Landfill and the Lee County Landfill SC, LLC and the Richland County Landfill. There, the methane gases that would normally be released into the atmosphere (gases that possibly contribute to global warming) will be used as "green power" fuel. The green power plant generates 14.2 megawatts of electricity which reduces enough methane emissions to be the environmental equivalent of planting more than 17,800 acres of trees. Green Power is something we can all live with. The cost is just $3 per month for 1 Block (100kwh), $6 per month for 2 Blocks (200kwh) and $9 per month for 3 Blocks (300kwh). You can also choose to purchase any number of blocks for $3 each. You will not notice any difference in your electric service when you sign up for the Green Power Program. The renewable energy purchased by participants will be pooled with energy from conventional sources and will be delivered through the same power lines. By participating in the Green Power Program, you can help ensure its success now and into the future. Sign up for Green Power today!
