Education

Mid-Carolina believes in being a catalyst for improvement. One way we do this is through our support of education - primary, secondary and continuing. We also provide funds directly for tuition and supplies, and we make educational materials available to interested parties on a variety of utility industry-related topics.

MCEC Touchstone Energy Scholarship
For its 18th consecutive year, Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative is offering its Touchstone Energy scholarships to high school seniors within its service area. The scholarship is open to any senior attending the following high schools: Irmo, Dutch Fork, Chapin, Saluda, Batesburg/Leesville, Lexington, White Knoll, Pelion, Gilbert and Airport. The scholarship is also made available to any in-state student whose primary residence receives electricity from MCEC.

Seven $1,000 scholarships are given by Mid-Carolina Electric to students in local school districts who are exceptional examples of "The Spirit of Cooperation", a deeply-ingrained value and driving force within the Touchstone Energy brand. Special consideration is given to need, extracurricular activities, community involvement, recommendations and the students’ personal analysis. Since 1990, over 90 scholarships have been awarded to students who fit these criteria, exhibit a positive attitude, and possess a good reputation within their respective communities.

Applications may be obtained through guidance counselors at each of the participating high schools. The deadline for 2008 application submittal was March 14, 2008.
