Bright Ideas

Bright Ideas is Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's way of "energizing innovative lessons" by educators at local schools. During the last three school years, the cooperative has awarded almost $41,740 in Bright Ideas grants.

In October 2007, the Mid-Carolina Electric Grant Patrol visited 17 teachers and presented grants ranging from several hundred dollars to $1,000.

"The idea behind Bright Ideas," according to MCEC's Member Services Manager, Eddie Richardson, "is to provide support outside of normal public school funding for great projects that deserve to be used in the classroom, yet need that extra assistance."

Bright Ideas is open to classroom educators of grades K-12 in Lexington school districts 1, 2, 3 and 5, Hollywood Elementary, Pinegrove, Rhame and Sandel Elementary and Columbia High school as well as private schools within Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's service territory. Applications are accepted May through September.
