Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative has taken steps to eliminate a national missing children crisis. In February, the co-op kicked off the American Football Coaches Association Child I.D. Program in Saluda, Lexington and Richland Counties, joining hundreds of Touchstone Energy electric co-ops seeking to put an end to this national problem. More than 800,000 children are reported missing every year--one every 40 seconds.
This unique joint effort between the American Football Coaches Association, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives provides parents and guardians with a fingerprint identification tool to help protect their children. The program, dubbed The National Child Identification Program, is one of the largest child identification efforts ever conducted and provides local cooperatives fingerprint I.D. kits to distribute among their members and in the communities they serve.
“Mid-Carolina Electric’s involvement in this endeavor is another example of our longstanding commitment to our community,” Jack F. Wolfe, CEO said. “Through this outreach program, we are proving that we are more than just an energy provider. We are fulfilling our pledge to be a valuable factor in ensuring the safety of the children of this community,” Wolfe said.
The ID Kit allows parents to collect specific information by easily recording the physical characteristics and fingerprints of their children on identification cards that are then kept at home by the parent or guardian.
“If ever needed, this I.D. kit would give authorities vital information to assist their efforts in locating a missing child,” explained Wolfe. “By participating in this program, Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative plays a vital role in protecting the children in the communities we serve,” Wolfe said.
Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative, a not-for-profit distribution electric cooperative, serves approximately 45,000 accounts in Lexington, Richland, Saluda, Aiken and Newberry Counties. As one of more than 600 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives in the country, the Cooperative is dedicated to providing superior customer service while maintaining a strong local presence in the community.
