MCEC Helps Local Students Get Charged!

Mid-Carolina Electric is helping area schools teach students about electricity and electric cooperatives. Through a partnership between Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and Discovery Channel School, the co-op recently embarked on a campaign to ensure that middle and junior high school students receive a quality education on electricity – its beginnings to its importance in today's world.

This educational campaign, called "Get Charged! Electricity and You," provides comprehensive and easy-to-digest lesson plans to teach students about electricity, a component of the National Academy of Science's National Science Education Standards (NSES).

"Providing our local schools with an effective educational resource on electricity and the vital efforts rural electric co-ops put forth in bringing power to the people all across America exemplifies our commitment to community," said Jack Wolfe, CEO.

Wolfe added, "By investing in our local students' education, we ensure that our members, both households and businesses, can continue to count on us to provide them with more than just electricity."

MCEC is delivering 60 study kits to local schools. The "Get Charged! Electricity and You" outreach program is yet another example of MCEC's commitment to the communities it serves.
