Lexington, SC, April 7, 2008 — A crowd of more than 7,000 people attended Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's (MCEC) annual meeting on Friday night at Lexington High School.

Co-op members elected to the Board of Trustees were Charles L. Nichols (Saluda), J. Allan Risinger (Batesburg-Leesville), and Barry B. Edwards (Chapin).

CEO Jack F. Wolfe, Jr. welcomed several of the states politicians to the annual meeting, including Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Joe Wilson. Both addressed the crowd concerning the growing concern for climate change and energy challenges.

Wolfe thanked MCEC's member advisory chairpersons who represent the Cooperative's six committees throughout the five-county service area. "The 150 members who serve on Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative Advisory Committees are our eyes and ears in the community," Wolfe explained. "They are liaisons between you, your board and the staff. For over 30 years they have provided us valuable information and support throughout the communities we serve." Mid-Carolina Trust Board members were also thanked for their service to the cooperative and to the community.

The Cooperative paid tribute to the seven students who were recently named 2008 Touchstone Energy Scholarship winners. They are Lacy Feigh and Maurice Hallman of White Knoll High School, Erin Greene, Irmo High, Sarah Hines, Airport High, Randy Drafts, Chapin High, Corey Bedenbaugh, Saluda High, and Sai Jonathan Ho, Batesburg-Leesville High. Each student receives a $1,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.

Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's 2008 Youth Tour representatives, Kari Pait (Lexington High) and Arjamand Sami (Dutch Fork High) were thanked for accepting the challenge of the Youth Tour contest. They will represent MCEC this summer on the 51st Washington Youth Tour, sponsored by electric cooperatives from across the nation.
