MCEC Richland County Taxes

Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative (MCEC) paid more than $5 million in taxes in 2006. MCEC Board Chairman Ken Frick presented a check to Richland County Treasurer David Adams for property taxes totaling almost $648,000. "We aren't just a power company, we're a local business," Frick said. "Like all individuals and businesses, Mid-Carolina annually pays taxes in each of the five counties that we serve. In fact, this year more than $2.2 million was paid in Lexington County." The only tax the cooperative does not pay is income tax. MCEC is a not-for profit electric utility serving more than 48,000 accounts in Lexington, Richland, Saluda, Aiken and Newberry Counties.
