Jenny Ballard scholarship

February 15, 2007 — South Carolina Women Involved in Rural Electrification (WIRE) is offering a scholarship to a woman in South Carolina who may not have been able to attend college when she graduated from high school, but now wants to further her education.

The $2,500 one-time WIRE Jenny Ballard Opportunity Scholarship will be presented to an electric cooperative member in South Carolina based on financial need and her personal goals. Candidates must meet the following criteria to apply.

• Be a member/customer of a South Carolina electric cooperative

• Have graduated from high school or earned your GED at least 10 years ago

• Obtain acceptance into an accredited South Carolina college or university

• Demonstrate financial need

Women who have previously obtained a four-year college degree are not eligible for this scholarship; however, applicants may have previously earned a two-year degree or some college credits.

Applications may be obtained from www.ecsc.org or Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2007. The winner will receive the scholarship for the Fall 2007 Semester. The scholarship will be paid jointly to the winner and the college of choice.

South Carolina WIRE is a statewide community service organization. It was created to foster understanding of electric cooperatives and to improve the quality of life in rural areas. In addition to the state organization, there are 15 local WIRE chapters at electric cooperatives throughout South Carolina.
