Jones Retires from MCEC

In 1957 most of us had no idea what a computer was or what it could do, but a bright young man named Jimmie Jones did and was already hard at work. As computer manager for Phillips Petroleum in Oklahoma, Jones developed and maintained computer software for large IBM mainframe computers. His path then led him to Celanese Corporation in Charlotte North Carolina as manager of electronic data processing. Over the next 15 years, he became an entrepreneur, founding two separate computer businesses, Network Computing Corporation of Charlotte and Jones Business Automation Services. Both companies specialized in providing computer services for electric cooperatives.

In January, Jones retired from Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative, Lexington, SC, after 12 years as vice president of information technology. "We are thankful to Jim for helping us develop our cooperative’s sophisticated computer system," said Jack Wolfe, MCEC President and CEO. "Jim is well respected in the information technology field, and we have been fortunate to have him as part of our co-op family."

Jones is replaced by Keith Sturkie. Prior to joining MCEC in 2002, Sturkie, a 27-year veteran in the information technology business, co-owned his own company, Southern Business Services. Serving customers nationwide, Sturkie and associates specialized in developing financing and customer information systems for electric cooperatives.
