WIRE Angel of Comfort Awards

This year's winners of the Women Involved in Rural Electrification (WIRE) Angel of Comfort award are Sharon Eubanks of Irmo, Judy Shealy of Leesville, and Dolores Gambrell of South Congaree.

"The Angel of Comfort award is designed to go to one lady from each of Mid-Carolina's three WIRE chapters who has exhibited an exceptional volunteer spirit," said Jan Bonnette, Public Relations Coordinator at Mid-Carolina.

Since 1996 Mid Carolina Electric Cooperative's WIRE group has given out its Angel of Comfort awards at the organization's annual meeting. "There are numerous ladies in each chapter who exemplify such high standards as the Angel of Comfort award requires, so it is a difficult decision for the judges and their peers," explains Bonnette. "As in the past, the winners of this award are shining beacons in their respective communities, and, throughout the year, strive to take part in as many of WIRE's events and projects as possible."

WIRE members cast a vote for an individual from their chapter who they feel deserves the award. With the nominee's name they also included a brief synopsis of why they think that person should win the Angel of Comfort award. An outside panel of judges then chooses each winner.

WIRE is an award-winning community action arm of Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative. The organization is comprised of co-op customers and employees, with more than 175 active members. The three chapters (Light, Holly and Guide) meet quarterly in the cooperative service area and have raised more than $40,000 for breast cancer patients in the past six years.
