MCEC Annual Meeting A record crowd of more than 6,000 people attended Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's annual meeting on Friday night at Lexington High School. During the meeting, the cooperative recognized Lois Shealy of Gilbert and Betty Ann Shealy of Chapin, recent retirees from MCEC Trust Board. "Both women served your Cooperative on the Trust Board since 1994," said MCEC CEO Jack F. Wolfe, "and have been shining examples of what devotion to one's fellow man means to all of us." Congressman Joe Wilson introduced a delegation of residents from Russia who are visiting in the United States on a political study tour. Lexington County Councilman Billy Derrick and Assistant County Administrator and Human Resource Director Katherine Doucett also participated in the meeting by awarding MCEC employees Jimmy Grandy and Michael Swygert with the Citizenship Award from Lexington County Fire Service. Grandy and Swygert assisted the fire service recently in rescuing a local resident. Also recognized were the Cooperative's 2006 Touchstone Energy Scholarship winners. They are Jonathan Aun, Lexington High School, Jessica Nash, Gilbert High School, Azra Aslam, Airport High School, Andrew Mills, Saluda High School, Jeffrey Davis, Batesburg-Leesville High School, Andrea Barr, Ridge-Spring Monetta High School, Natalie Wessinger, Chapin High School, and Patrick Teague, Irmo High School.
Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative's 2006 Youth Tour representatives, Ashton Padgett (Gilbert High) and Kelli Rush (Irmo High) were recognized and thanked for accepting the challenge of the Youth Tour contest. They will represent MCEC this summer on the 49th Washington Youth Tour, sponsored by electric cooperatives from across the nation. Co-op members elected Kenneth V. Frick (Irmo), Marvin W. Sox (Lexington), and Clifford B. Shealy (Gilbert) to the MCEC Board of Trustees. Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit business with headquarters in Lexington and another operations center in the Dutch Fork area. The 66-year old utility provides electricity to more than 47,000 accounts in Lexington, Richland, Newberry, Saluda and Aiken counties. |
